Well for starters I don't believe this piece was proofread before it was published here. There are grammatical errors, typos, and redundancies starting from Chapter One and continuing throughout the novel. Secondly, the plot parallels the Twilight series in several ways. I myself have only seen some of the movies, but Alex's family dynamic/ story arc (a seventeen year old girl moving to the state of Washington with her recently widowed police man father) is very similar to that of Bella. The introduction of (spoiler alert) vampires in the later chapters doesn't help distinguish "Merikh's Daughter" from Stephenie Meyer’s books. The “humans vs vampires” trope isn’t really taken in a different direction here and is somewhat predictable. Finally the writing itself just isn’t good. From the excessive description of what every character is wearing to the choppiness and lack of flow during each scene to the lack of a variance in adjectives used to describe each character/ setting and so on; the writing didn’t lead to an enjoyable reading experience. All in all I believe the author didn’t put enough time or effort into the story that it deserves. I’d suggest looking into the “Twilight” section of fanfiction.net rather than trying to sell it here on Amazon.Tags : Merikh's Daughter (Volume 1) [Gabriela M Sanchez] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. great
I thought it was a great story and I liked the details !!
The story could have been good. It wasn't bad, just wasn't good either. I felt Alexandra was too weak to be a strong lead in this story. The story bounced along rather quickly and had little world building and even less character building. The fighting scenes were weak. The ending was a bit of a stretch for me to grasp. Don't pass on reading thus book, just know it is a beginning writers first book. Recommend for readers age 10 and up.
